I can't help thinking about the recent earthquake in Japan and the related tsunami that followed. If that wasn't enough for the poor inhabitants of the area , a nuclear event of major proportion followed.
It's at those moments that I remember how fragile we all are and that when the greater powers and science decide that its time to blow off a little steam, watch out!
I'm not sure how long it will take for the areas infrastructure to rebuild but I will tell you that the people of Japan have always found a way to be resourceful and they will rebuild with a vengeance. You only have to look at World War II to see that after a nuclear holocaust and certainly with America’s help they became the second greatest financial market in the world and stayee on that course for many years. How many of us drive a Japanese made car or have owned a Sony television or a Canon Sureshot.
So from this disaster there will be rebuilding and new financial growth for that country and for all of those allies and companies that will help in the rebuilding process. The nuclear program will survive and those nuclear scientist currently working on the cleanup will become heroes to the rest of the world. General Electric and others are assisting Japan on solving their immediate energy needs.
I went on line and looked at the safety records of Nuclear Power Plants. They have possibly the best safety records of all other energy sources. It’s like flying a plane, the safest form of transportation. While I am not advocating Nuclear Power to solve all of our needs, it certainly will be a source of power for many decades.
Those who live on a fault line and earthquake zone with nuclear power plants nearby couldn’t help to think of the personal possible dangers. Wow, it’s was definitely scary.
At the end there will be more natural disaster like the earthquake in Haiti, or the ones in Korea, or Turkey or the coast line of California where my children live. There will be tornadoes, hurricanes, landslides and forest fires. And then always, there will rebuilding.
Does anyone remember the BP spill or Katrina? Mankind seems to rebuild and move forward to a new chapter.
